There's been much media coverage of the fierce Kurdish warriors known as the pesh merga and their role in securing Northern Iraq and attacking Muslin extremist groups. However, little has been said about the mysterious Kurdish warrior minstrels known as the depeche merga, who fight with their own brand of downbeat Eighties synth-pop.

Preferring to fight as a threesome or quartet, these not-quite-as-fierce-as-the-regular-pesh-merga warriors are nonetheless highly thought of in some quarters, although doubters say that the group hasn't had a good firefight since Billy Idol was all the rage.
