Warren Zevon on Letterman Wednesday Night

Tonight on the Late Show With David Letterman, the only guest will be Warren Zevon. Dave is devoting the entire program to him. So wake the kids, phone the neighbors, and don't miss it.

In other Warren Zevon news, VH1 is videotaping Zevon's last recording session, which also features Don Henley and Bob Dylan. Dylan has apparently been covering a number of Zevon songs on his latest concert tour. You know you've made it as a song writer when Bob Dylan covers your material.

As far as I'm concerned, Jesus can come back during the closing crdits tonight. As a longtime fan of Zevon, I've been deeply saddened by this turn of events in his life. The VCR will be rolling for this one, to be sure.

Just to clarify, the show will be on WEDNESDAY night, so there's still time to set the Replay or VCR or what-have-you.

Ahh.. a tribute to one great American iconoclast from another. This is really cool, and very touching. Glad you posted it.

I will probably regret it this afternoon when the fatigue catches up to me, but I stayed up for this one.

Warren looked as good as can be expected, and had a wonderfully mature attitude about his situation.

Excellent, well-performed three-song set: "Mutineer," "Genius," and "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner."

I'd write something profound at this point, but Warren already wrote it for me:
"And the darkness falls/and the rain comes down in the midst of spring/there's a sadness in the heart of things."

I'll probably write something about Zevon in a while. In the meantime, I thought it was a pretty good show. I imagine that that will probably be Zevon's last public appearance. If so, it was a totally appropriate venue. Letterman has been his biggest supporter through the years, and giving him the entire show was a very nice thing to do.

Enjoy every sandwich.

I was impressed with warren's courage and ablity to go beyond the obvious. I am sure he is doing this to get his last licks in and make sure his family will be taken care of in the future. The old joke applies here that if he knew he would live this long he would have taken better care of himself. For use his fans we only wish he did. He will be missed and there are no replacements in this generation.

He is a unique talent who made music on his terms and nobody elses'.

How fine and true a broadcast that was, at the very highest level of audience interest and empathy with those of Lucy's baby and the Eagle's landing. Even if I hadn't been a twenty-plus-year fan of Warren's and Dave's, that show could have made up for lost time.

Maybe *now* the record companies will issue Zevon's excellent live album, _Stand In The Fire_, on cd.

Before I packed my old turntable away, I made a CD of my 'Stand in the Fire' album. I listen to it all the time. Great live album.

How can I view that episode? I missed it.

I am in the same boat, I was really mad Thursday when i read on all the sites he had been on the show, the one show worth watching this year and I was out.

I too was disappointed to hear of the Letterman/Zevon show too late...however, I can assure you that the show will be repeated
in the not too distant future...probably within 2 weeks to 30 days...that's the way television programming is today...and surely the show will be rebroadcast following Warren's death.

Hello,

I missed it too because itīs impossible to see the show here in Germany. Truly, I had no chance to visit L.A. only to wait for a WZ-concert since listening to his music since 1976.
Have I a chance to get a tape of the show ?

Thank you
Dr. Selk (still suffering since these September-news).

The show was GREAT. Letterman's a class act, and he proved it by giving his musical idol and the show's long-time friend one last hurrah. Wasn't Warren brave? They both made me really proud to be long-time fans of Warren's music and Dave's show.

p.s. For those who missed it, there are some MP3s floating around out there with the performances and parts of the interview.

I actually have the Zevon segments of show saved as a collection of four DIVX Mpegs. Very high quality - recorded digitally off the S-video of my digital cable box, with 48kbps/16 bit sound.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure about how kosher it would be to distribute them, or I'd just throw them on the web site and let you click and download them.

If you guys miss the inevitable re-run, drop me an E-mail and we'll see what we can do. I'm sure Warren and Dave would understand.

I heard about the show. Taped it, and found out the next day that the tape was defective and the recording ended just after the top 10 list. So I never saw Warren. Talk about depressed. I've e-mailed Late Night but no reply. I sure hope they do repeat it. Next time there's no way I'll rely on an electronical piece of ****.

I found out too late, too little, that Warren was going to be on Letterman's show late October -- and since then, I have been shamelessly pilfering the internet to find someone who may have taped this gem.

If there's anyone on this list that has a VCR copy of Warren on Letterman, I would be profoundly humbled. Please please please. Of course I will reimburse any duplication and shipping costs.

You can email me at: jodella39@yahoo.com

Thanks so much,

J.

Where can I get a copy of Zevon on the Letterman show? I missed it in a big way

I was on vacation in Oct. 2002 in Noosa, Australia for a relative's wedding (I live in Chicago). After a night at the bars, I returned to the hotel and put on the TV. I was fortunate to catch the three song set (only), but missed the conversation. David L., you're a friend to us fans and deserve our respect. I too would like to purchase or download a copy of the show. Perhaps profits could go to cancer research.

PLEASE PLEASE Someone provide me with a good copy of this whole show that i missed. If it is any help, i recorded the VH1 show the other night. It was great and I am more than willing to share. It was impossible to watch with dry eyes. The Guy is unlike anyone else. I have been a big fan ever since I heard Jackson Browne do "Warewolves" in a concert, before it came out and said to remember the name "Zevon".

Is anyone willing to share/sell a copy of the Zevon/Letterman show? A few of us have been searching for quite a while for a copy and have had no luck. I was out of the country when the show aired and would like to see it if possible. Thanks to all in advance.
